STUDENTS

All students are provided with a Student Handbook upon enrolment. This document is important because it outlines all of the policies and procedures relating to your successful participation in training and assessment with the College.

Prior to enrolment, prospective students need to be aware of the following:

Credit Transfer

The College recognises the AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other RTO and gives credit for these towards an award, where applicable. In order for credit transfer to apply, the College must sight an original or JP-certified copy of a qualification or statement of attainment issued by another RTO. A JP-certified copy of the document must be retained as part of the College’s records of assessment. To apply for credit transfer, contact us on 07 3257 7799 or email info@royalcollege.com.au.

Recognition of Prior Learning

RPL is a form of assessment that enables you to be given credit for what you already know and can do, in other words your competencies. If you can present appropriate supportive evidence, competence in a particular unit or element of the course can be granted. The evidence presented must match the requirements of the unit exactly. The types of evidence required under the RPL process include examples of previous work, demonstration of performance or specific tasks in real or simulated work situations, results in practical, written or verbal tasks, and/or corroborated information on previous achievement.

If you would like to know more about RPL, contact us on 07 3257 7799 or email info@royalcollege.com.au.

Student Support

The College is committed to supporting all students to successfully complete their training program. We do this through:

  • student counselling

  • library service

  • course information service

  • structured training

  • tutorial support either one-to-one or telephone

  • Email support

Language, Literacy & Numeracy

We will identify your level of language, literacy and numeracy during the enrolment process. An initial assessment tool may also be used to assist us in determining your strengths and weaknesses in these areas. Should you feel you will require additional educational support, please let us know so we can advise you of resources available within or external to the College and make appropriate referrals.

Refunds

Tuition fees are not refundable, except in the following circumstances:

• Workplace based delivery – If the College is notified four weeks in advance prior to the commencement date, all deposits paid will be refunded in full. Notification after this date but prior to course commencement will attract a 50% refund. Once the course has commenced, no monies will be refunded. Cancellation of an enrolment must be notified in writing to the College with the reason clearly detailed.

• Online delivery – If the College is notified four weeks in advance prior to the commencement date, all deposits paid will be refunded in full. Notification after this date but prior to course commencement will attract a 50% refund. Once the course has commenced, no monies will be refunded. Cancellation of an enrolment must be notified in writing to the College with the reason clearly detailed.

• College Cancellation of Course – In the unlikely event of the College cancelling a course (for reasons outside the control of the student), students will be entitled to a full refund or credit of funds to a future course

• Medical Conditions – Students who can provide a medical certificate for a serious illness will be refunded the remainder of monies unused or be offered opportunities to complete the remainder of the course within the next two (2) student intakes

• User Choice funded traineeships – students whose training is funded by the User Choice Program in Queensland may be eligible for a refund of fees in the following circumstances:

A: Where a student does not commence a Unit of Competency/Module, then Royal College of Healthcare will reimburse the student for all tuition fees collected in relation to that Unit of Competency/Module.

B: Where a student withdraws from a Unit of Competency/Module after participating in learning activity, then a proportionate payment of the tuition fee will be reimbursed.

C: Students who can provide a medical certificate for a serious illness will be refunded the remainder of monies unused or be offered opportunities to complete the remainder of the course within the next two (2) student intakes

Complaints and Appeals

The College is committed to a fair and equitable process for dealing with student complaints and appeals against assessment policies, processes, practices or outcomes. We strive to deal with issues as soon as they emerge, in order to avoid further disruption or the need for a formal complaint. Students will be advised, at the time of enrolment, of the appeals process and of their rights with regard to appeals. This information will also be conveyed as part of any initial training program or process.

Students may also refer to the National Training Complaints Hotline on 1800 000 674.
